NORWICH - The Norwich Police Department is happy to announce Sergeant Tristan Rifanburg has graduated from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Defensive Tactics Instructor Course.
Sgt. Rifanburg attended Norwich High School, and later earned a scholarship to Binghamton University as a Division I Wrestler.
After graduating from BU with a bachelor’s degree, Tristan began his career at the Norwich Police Department.
The intensive two-week Defensive Tactics Course, that was held at the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, encompasses the most up to date, cutting edge law enforcement tactics in the country.
Sgt. Rifanburg is now certified to instruct police officers in use of force with techniques that include jiu jitsu, ground control and weapons retention. “I’m quite pleased with Sgt. Rifanburg’s dedication; this is an incredibly difficult certification to earn, and it will be extremely beneficial for our officers,” reports Chief Reuben J. Roach.
