OXFORD – With a three-way tie in the MAC girls’ soccer standings, the Oxford Blackhawks were drawn as the second seed, where they hosted third seed Sidney on Tuesday afternoon. Oxford led 1-0 at halftime and had good control in the second half until Sidney scored two goals, including one with about two minutes left in regulation.
Both teams went into overtime tied at two and what looked like the game was to be decided in a shootout, Kayla Knapp scored with 11 seconds left in the second half of overtime. This 3-2 win sends Oxford to the MAC girls championship game.
Oxford took a 1-0 lead at halftime on a goal from Taegan Manwarren from an assist by Paige Rickard. This scoring opportunity came halfway through the first half, where Sidney took control in possession early on, but the Blackhawks finally capitalized on a good offensive drive. Sidney also had multiple corner kicks in the first half, but could not finish against a strong Oxford defense.
