NORWICH – The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office has been successful at earning accreditation for many years, going through regular independent audits that evaluates over 150 individual standards throughout the office’s departments.
The audits are conducted by assessors specializing in each division to ensure all of the New York State Sheriffs Association for Accreditation standards are being met.
During the Chenango County Board of Supervisors meeting on October 15, the Sheriff's Office was honored for their hard work and dedication and achievement of reaccreditation.
The sheriff's Chief Civil Clerk Craig Allison received an award for his high professional standards during his career.
"This goes all the way back to 1999, when we were across the street in the old facility and the former sheriff decided we would work toward accreditation," said Chenango County Sheriff Ernest Cutting. "Accreditation is the professional standards law enforcement agencies operate on."
"We not only worked the law enforcement accreditation, but also the jail accreditation, civil accreditation and communications accreditation for the sheriff's office and I'm happy to say that we've been accredited in law enforcement since 1999, in communications and civil since 2008 and the jail accreditation since 2007," said Cutting.
He gave congratulations to Chief Civil Clerk Craig Allison who was just re-accredited for the civil division and has been continuously accredited since 2008.
