NORWICH — During October's Board of Supervisors meeting, the Cooperative Extension and 4-H were recognized for their combined programs that continue to enrich school experiences and support young people to learn about healthy lifestyles with officials proclaiming October 2024 as 'Cooperative Extension and 4-H Month.'
The Cooperative Extension of Chenango County Educators partner with local organizations and over 125 local volunteers, contributing their time, talent and leadership in promoting agriculture and sustainability, natural resources education, youth development and family resources development.
“4-H is the largest youth development program that teaches young people with the model of “learning by doing” and using practical experience along the way,” said 4-H Animal Science and Agriculture Educator Victoria Ryan.
“The proclamation is important because it recognizes the hard work we do and is appreciated, “said Ryan.
She said opportunities in Chenango County involve animal science projects, camping, sewing, shooting sports, cooking and more, utilizing hands on teaching with youth at age appropriate levels.
Ryan said she was raised in a 4-H family, her parents and grandparents were in the program as well. She said it was an easy decision to sign up at age eight.
