SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville Timberwolves football team were welcomed home on Friday night with a debut on their new turf field against APW. S-E held a 6-0 lead at halftime, but were stunned in the second half, where APW scored 28 unanswered points and went on to win 28-12.
Prior to the game, the Timberwolves honored its senior players and cheerleaders. Congratulations to Garret Winton, Cameron Mason, Nick Hull, Brayden O’Hara, Preston Proskine, Cody Clarkson, Dilen Maceda, Aidan Schroer, Aiden Kiehn, Blaine Fleming, Charlie Portzeba, Ashton Copeland, and Landon Andrade. Congratulations to cheerleaders; Leonora Serrano and Nevaeh Graham.
“It was a great night to open up our new stadium, “ S-E head coach Steve Franklin said. “It was a great atmosphere to feed off of.”
APW got the ball to start the game and got into S-E territory with a big run with a touchdown-saving tackle from the Timberwolves’ Justin Race. APW could not capitalize on that drive as Aiden Kiehn sacked the quarterback on a big fourth down. S-E took over at their own 37 yard line and overcame a few fourth downs with good runs by Race on the ground. Race and Nick Hull swapped carries to bring S-E to the goal line, where quarterback Hadden Price punched it in for an eight-yard score to mark the first touchdown on the new turf.
