CHENANGO COUNTY – The second round of soccer sectionals were underway over the weekend with several local teams still in contention. After the wild weekend, only one local team remains; the Oxford Blackhawks girls’ soccer team. Good season to the MAC champions, Oxford boys, the Greene boys , and the Otselic Valley Vikings boys.
Girls Soccer:
Oxford 1 - B-G 0
After a scoreless first half of a game held at Oxford High School, Oxford’s Taegan Manwarren scored the first goal of the game, unassisted, halfway through the first half and it would stick as the game-winner.
“We bounced back and played a great game after a tough loss to Unatego (MAC Championship game),” Oxford head coach Rachel Seiler said. “The girls stayed focused and worked hard to earn this win. We knew that it was going to be a good battle because B-G is a very talented team. Defensively, this was one of our best games!”
The Lady Blackhawks take on Trumansburg on Tuesday.
Good season, B-G Bobcats and best of luck to the seniors. Breegan George and Jayslin Henderson both led the Bobcats with nine goals on the season while Breanna Casey and Keelan Ammon both had six goals each. Henderson also led the team with 11 assists.
Trumansburg 1 - UV 0 F/OT
The Lady Storm fell to a tough T-Burg team 1-0 in overtime. Great season, UV and best of luck to the seniors. Gracie Gorrell led the team with 10 goals, Myriah Taylor scored five goals, Natalie Crandall with four goals, and Shelby Rose finished with two goals.
Boys Soccer:
Marathon 5 - Oxford 0
The 2024 MAC champions fell to third seed Marathon on the road. The Oxford Blackhawks boys have finished what has been a memorable season that its seniors will look back on with being runners-up at the Sherburne-Earlville tournament, winning their own boys tournament, and of course, winning the MAC championship and advancing to the second round of sectionals. Good season, Oxford and best of luck to the seniors. Gordon Smith led the Blackhawks with 12 goals on the season, Donovan Rickard and Paxton LaMonica both scored nine goals as Sam Hendricks finished with four goals and Jared Sheridan with three goals. Rickard also led the team with 10 assists while LaMonica had six and Hendricks with two assists.
Seton Catholic 7 - Greene 1
After knocking off Unatego/Franklin in the first round, the Greene Trojans boys’ soccer team fell in a tough match-up against Seton Catholic 7 -1. Kloden Rapp capped off his senior soccer season with the team’s lone goal and finished with 24 goals and 12 assists overall. Jack Rice had 11 goals and seven assists and Judd Dutcher contributed with eight goals and eight assists this season while Seth Symons scored four goals and Kenny Baucas with three. Good season, Trojans and best of luck to the seniors.
Poland 7 - OV 1
After stunning McGraw in the first round, the Otselic Valley Vikings boys’ soccer team fell 7 -1 to Poland. Owen Davis scored the Vikings’ lone goal while Caleb Loomis made eight saves in goal. Davis led the Vikings with 14 goals and one assist as Lukas Schieferstein scored six goals and had six assists. Ryan Bilodeau also had six assists on the season. Senior Austin Brown finished with one goal and one assist as fellow senior Ryley Palmer had one assist. Good season, OV and best of luck to the seniors.
