NEWARK VALLEY – After two tough losses to Whitney Point and Deposit-Hancock, the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats football team regrouped and came away with the 20-6 victory over Newark Valley to improve to 6-2 on the season. Coach Art Rigas complimented his team on staying focused all week in practice and overcoming weeks of adversity.

After a scoreless first quarter, B-G got the ball rolling to take a 6-0 lead at halftime before scoring again in the third and fourth quarter and held the Cardinals to six points in the fourth quarter. Rigas said his defense did very well and forced several turnovers, where two fumbles were returned for touchdowns by Parker Buttice. Buttice also scored a rushing touchdown offensively and finished with all three scores for the Bobcats while Connor Davy was able to convert on a two-point conversion.

“Buttice is settling in for us as what we call him a “H back” and has stepped in, especially with the loss of Kaiden Seymour,” Rigas said. “Davy also came back healthy this week.”

Buttice had 51 yards on the ground as Davy passed for 160 yards. Declyn Marshfield led the Bobcats with 56 receiving yards as Kyle Patton had two catches for 53 yards.

Rigas knows his kids have a tough match-up ahead of them and knows that the fate of playoffs are at stake with Friday’s game against Tioga, the three-time defending state champions.
