NEW BERLIN — The Golden Foundation for the Arts is hosting their last Open Studios of the year from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, in the refurbished barn used for their artist residency program at 237 Bell Road in New Berlin. The event is free and open to the public.
Golden Foundation for the Arts Executive Director Emma Golden said Open Studios is a chance for artists in the residency program to show the public what they've been working on, their artistic process, and the experiments they've done.
"Open Studios, for us, is not walking into a gallery space with finished work," Golden explained. "You're walking into somebody’s studio space. You see their process, you see the materials they’re using, you see the tools they’re using. So it’s inviting in a different sort of way that you can really get into how they do what they do."
Visitors will have the chance to walk through the barn and get an inside glimpse into the creative process of resident artists Anna Ortiz, Lilian Martinez, and Antonius-Tin Bui. The artists will also be present to discuss their work with attendees.
Golden said Bui, an artist from Connecticut, applied for the residency program with their intricate cut paper pieces that focus largely on portraiture. Since their art includes no paint, Bui took this opportunity to experiment with watercolors, pastels, and acrylics.
