OXFORD - 6 On The Square, Oxford’s acoustic listening room, will host singer and songwriter Dana Cooper for a stop on his album release tour at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16.
An acclaimed singer-songwriter, Cooper released his 32nd studio album, "The Ghost of Tucumcari," in May. Featuring an all-star lineup of guest artists, the album marks a major achievement for the veteran musician after more than 50 years in the business. Cooper’s first release on Elektra Records came out 51 years ago and featured the legendary band The Section with Leland Sklar and Russ Kunkel — also known as The Immediate Family — as his session musicians for the album. Artists lending their voices to "The Ghost of Tucumcari" include Lyle Lovett, Hayes Carll, Susan Gibson, Mando Saenz, Darden Smith, Shake Russell and Libby Koch. "The Ghost of Tucumcari" takes listeners on a musical journey across genres from folk and rock to country and Americana. The songs on the album span decades, from the 1970s up to 2024. Standout tracks include the haunting title track featuring Lovett, and a rousing rendition of Woody Guthrie's song "This Land Is Your Land" with Lovett, Carll and the album’s other guest vocalists. The North American tour, which is sponsored by Bingham’s Bourbon, kicked off in May in Texas, and it has given both diehard and newfound fans the chance to experience Cooper's legendary live performances firsthand. Cooper proves that creativity and touring has no expiration date. "The Ghost of Tucumcari" is a testament to lifelong passion and musical integrity from one of folk-rock's most enduring troubadours. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door; purchase at 6onthesquare.org or call 607-843-OTS6 (6876) to make a reservation. Doors open one hour before the start of performances.
