Tilting at Windmills: Fun and Folly

It’s around the block; it’s in the air

It’s here, it’s there, it’s everywhere!

Invisible? Or can I see

Impending, looming … this or that?

I’d like to know where I am at!

I’ll tell you now that it’s a joy

For man and woman. Girl and boy.

It’s Deck the Halls; it’s Trim a Tree …

This season of festivity!

With cards to write and gifts to buy

It’s basting turkey. Baking pie.

There’s wondering if it will snow

And Tiny Tim … from long ago.

We gather round the fireplace

The heat feels toasty on our face.

We stretch our feet out toward the flames

We wiggle toes; we play board games.

Our tummies full … our belts are tight.

It’s been the most delightful night!

Oh, wait! I think I’ve jumped the gun

For all of this is still to come

Sugar cookies. Wintry smells

Mistletoe and jingle bells.

We’re eager for The Big Event

Tickled silly with content!

A week or two, and then we’re there.

Excitement shimmers in the air

Time for laughter, fun and folly …

‘Tis the season to be jolly!
