NORWICH — In November, Norwich teen Drew Ross Westervelt, was acknowledged for his years of community service and dedication to Scouting at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremony at the Cvfree Church in Norwich.
To achieve the highest rank in the Boy Scouts takes years of meeting specific rank requirements and advancing through them with discipline, courage, hard work, loyalty, leadership, vision and community service.
At the event, Westervelt thanked everyone for supporting him and encourage others to get involved.
He said he enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow Scouts and the opportunities to learn about a wide variety of topics with some of his favorite highlights being the camping trips.
“Little did I know when I first joined Cub Scouts in first grade, that it would turn into me becoming an Eagle Scout, the highest rank a Scout can obtain,” said Westervelt. “The memories made throughout my time in Scouts are endless and some of the people I’ve met have had lasting impacts on me.”
Westervelt gave recognition to those that had a significant impact on him throughout his time in Scouts and started by mentioning his first Scoutmaster.
“My first Scoutmaster, Mr. Shimer, is one of those people,” said Westervelt. “He has been pivotal in my success, as he has taught me many merit badges and is someone I know I can rely on to support and help me.”
