NEW BERLIN – The Unadilla Valley Storm boys basketball team opened their 2024 season at home against Stamford/Jefferson in a non-league contest on Monday. The Storm are coached by Josh Burchill this season. UV trailed for most of the game but ignited early in the third quarter and maintained their intensity throughout the fourth to secure a 49-44 victory.

Stamford/Jefferson showed early on that they were strong rebounders under the basket, whether it be their own or on UV’s end of the court. This possession allowed them to rebound and move in to score. UV was off to a slow start with Denzel Peter providing all eight points in the first quarter with the team down 18-8 to start. Stamford/Jefferson took a nine-point lead, 29-20 into the break.

The Storm found its rhythm in the second half, where they came out fiery to start the third quarter. They scored 10 straight points with strong blocks on defense to steal the ball. Isaiah Salimbangon’s three-pointer gave UV its first lead of the game, by one point. However, Stamford/Jefferson came back and led by three-points to start the final eight minutes of play.
