Greene man faces weapons charges after undercover detective buys submachine gun

GREENE— According to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, Dmitri S. Grassi, 30, of Greene, was arrested on December 11 after he allegedly he sold a fully automatic firearm to an undercover detective. He has been charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, one count of criminal sale of a firearm in the third degree, and one count of willful defacement of a firearm. Authorities allege Grassi sold a MAC-11 submachine gun with a high-capacity magazine and partially removed serial numbers to the undercover detective. He was taken into custody without incident and released pending a court appearance in North Norwich.

Columbus man charged with sexual abuse of a minor held in jail

COLUMBUS — Matthew J. Baird, 35, of Columbus, was arrested on December 10, on charges of first-degree sexual abuse, forcible touching, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators allege Baird had sexual contact with a juvenile victim. Following his arraignment in Chenango County Centralized Arraignment Court, Baird was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $25,000 cash bail.

Man arrested for DWI, resisting arrest after reports of driving through yards

GUILFORD — William A. Teeter, 65, of Croghan, was arrested on December 5, for driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest, according to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responding to reports of a vehicle driving through yards and off-road in the Town of Guilford before locating the suspect in a field. After field sobriety tests indicated intoxication, Teeter allegedly resisted arrest but was subdued and taken into custody. He was later released to a third party and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
