OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks girls basketball team hosted Bainbridge-Guilford for their first home game of the season, where they fell short 42-37.
Both teams were off to a slow start with B-G taking a brief 16-14 lead at halftime. The Bobcats stayed consistent in the final two quarters with Oxford picking up the pace in the final eight minutes, but efforts fell short.
B-G’s Jalyn Winans, Marissa Mayo, and Peyton Umbra posted double-digit scores with Winans leading the team with 14 points, going 7-for-8 at the free-throw line. Mayo stayed consistent throughout the game to finish with 10 points. Umbra also finished with 10 points with seven points in the second half.
Jayslin Henderson led the team with 15 rebounds and contributed with five points as Emma Kinter scored three points in the first half.
