CHENANGO COUNTY — Several Chenango County organizations have supported Toys for Tots this year with both monetary and toy donations.
Chenango County Toys for Tots Coordinator Terry Potter said they received donations from the Chenango County Association of Highway Superintendents, the Leatherstocking Corvette Club, Nina's Pizzeria, and the Colonia Theater. All toys donated will go to benefit children and families in Chenango County.
"We make sure that everything stays here," Potter said. "We’ve exceeded 1,000 children already this year, right here in Chenango."
Leatherstocking Corvette Club Member Sharon Fleming said club members were able to collect dozens of toys to donate for the 21st year in a row. They also donated $300 to three food banks each year, with donations going to food banks in Norwich, Morris, and Binghamton this year.
"We like to give to charity, and over the years, our members are so widely spread, our club includes such a big area. We try to choose food banks that are in a member’s area. Each year we do different ones," Fleming explained. "Toys for Tots, we started doing it early in our existence and have just continued to do it. We just have a good turnout. Everybody enjoys doing that."
The Leatherstocking Corvette Club is a group of approximately 50 corvette enthusiasts who participate in and attend car shows and rallies, autocross events, cruises to various places of interest, parades, and donate to charitable causes.
