NEW BERLIN - The New Berlin Library applied and received a Four County Library System Outreach Grant. This grant’s goal was to help the New Berlin Library better serve a targeted population. The targeted population of this grant was people that are living in institutionalized settings and people who have developmental, learning, or physical disabilities. The library wrote the grant with the population of Pathfinder Village in mind.

“Pathfinder Village residents visit our library regularly. We hoped to increase to fun of their visits to our library by writing a grant that would allow us to purchase craft kits that could be completed in the library during visits.” Stated library director, Michelle Priola. “We created a space that the craft kits could be store and easily accessed by both Pathfinder Village member and staff. The library purchased over $600 of craft kits spanning the season and holidays.”

It is an ongoing goal of the New Berlin Library to increase community outreach, through programming in the library and participation in community events. It was as part of that initiative this grant was written. Additionally, as part of this initiative, New Berlin Library volunteer will be at Chase Nursing Home this weekend, in full costume, as Santa.

Some great new additions to the library include: The Library on Plum Island by Amy Rafferty, The Cottage on Plum Island by Amy Rafferty, The Lighthouse on Plum Island by Amy Rafferty, The Restaurant on Plum Island by Amy Rafferty, The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s First Christmas by Eric Carle, and Wild Robot DVD.
