NORWICH - The Norwich Garden Club and Town & Country Garden Club announced the winners of the 2024 Home for the Holidays Decorating Contest on December 24. They thanked residents for participating in the 8th annual event and said it helped to promote a beautiful festive atmosphere
Members said this year’s competition proved challenging for the judges, saying it was “very difficult to choose from so many beautifully and thoughtfully decorated homes,” throughout Norwich.
They encouraged residents to drive by the winning homes and admire the holiday displays across the city. Holiday Decorating Categories were: Best for Children, Best Wreath, Best Colored lights, Best Religious, Best Artificial Tree, Best Window, Best Live Tree, Best White Lights, Best Colored Lights, Best Porch, Best Door, Garden Clubs' Choice.
Judges highlighted the exceptional creativity on Francis Avenue and Hayes Street, naming them the most decorated streets in Norwich. Porch displays were particularly noted as a standout feature this year.
The competition was for residents in the City of Norwich with judging in the evenings between December 2 and 6.
The winners include a tie between 17 and 19 Francis Avenue for Best Use of White Lights, and 22 Sunset Drive was recognized for Best Use of Colored Lights.
Other winners included 143 South Broad Street for Best Wreath, 155 North Broad Street for Best Windows, and 10 Park Street for Best Artificial Tree.
The award for Best Door went to 73 Sheldon Street, while 65 South Broad Street was named Best Porch.
Additional accolades included Best Live Trees for 4 Chirlin Drive, Best for Children for 61 Rexford Street, and Best Religious Theme for 104 Canasawacta Street.
The Garden Clubs’ “Choice” Award was presented to 9 Ridgeland Drive.
This is the eighth year of the Home for the Holidays Decorating Contest, which is a collaboration between the Norwich Garden Club, Town & Country Garden Club, and the Norwich Business Improvement District (B.I.D.).
