NEW BERLIN - The New Berlin Library will be holding two winter art programs.
The first program will be a children’s art class held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22.The second winter art program will be an adult art class held at 5 p.m. on Monday, January 27.Both painting classes are of sunflower paintings, of different skill levels.
The children’s winter art program will be for children 12 and younger. Participating children will be taught to make a simple acrylic painting of three sunflowers on 8x10 canvas board. This simple design will be taught starting with three circle flower centers, then adding the flower petals, stems and leaves and finally loosely brushing in a blue background. The painting will be finished with black paint markers that will be used outline the sunflowers.
The adult winter art program will be for adults and teens. Participants will be taught to paint a field of brush stroke sunflowers on an 8-inch by 10-inch stretched canvas. This painting will involve a basic outline sketch, block painting, and a series of small paint strokes in various colors. There will be easy to follow step by step instructions.
“We wanted to give participants a bit of sunshine in the middle of winter, that is why we chose sunflower paintings. We wanted to give everyone a little bit of sunshine.” stated library director Michelle Priola. “In these art program, I want to teach that there is beauty in imperfection. That art does not have to be perfect to be good.”
