NORWICH – The Norwich Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian on Cortland Street on New Year's Day.
The accident occurred at approximately 8 a.m.
Skid marks at the scene indicated a pickup truck was traveling east on Cortland Street when it veered off the left side of the roadway crossing over the sidewalk and leaving tire tracks across a lawn of a vacant home at 20 Cortland Street.
The vehicle struck the home, damaging the porch, steps and scattering wooden debris at the scene.
The victim was walking on the sidewalk and was thrown by the impact and found underneath a damaged porch, reported first responders.
