NORWICH – A sex offender in Norwich was arrested Thursday, for allegedly using social media without registering his account with police in violation of his parole conditions, according to the Norwich Police Department.

Joshua Jerrod Clifton, 44, of Norwich, was charged with violating his parole and failure to register, a Class E felony, following an investigation conducted by the Norwich Police Department and New York State Parole.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office is also involved in the investigation and has separate charges pending against Clifton reported Norwich Police Chief Reuben J. Roach.

He said and investigation found Clifton was using an unregistered Instagram account, granting him access to juveniles and activities in violation of his parole conditions as a Level III sex offender.

“Our Norwich detectives conducted surveillance and executed a search warrant, and we were able to remove a Level III Sex Offender from a residential area, and more importantly a multi-family rental home,” said Roach.

Clifton is being held at the Norwich Police Department pending an arraignment in Central Arraignment Court Court. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are expected said police.
