NORWICH - A Norwich man has been arrested on multiple charges following an alleged incident involving rape and burglary in the Town of Norwich, reported by the Chenango County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday.
Brandon P. King, 23, has been charged with first degree burglary, a class B felony; first degree rape, a class B felony; second degree menacing, a class A misdemeanor; and criminal obstruction of breathing, a class A misdemeanor.
The sheriff’s office stated “Deputies responded to an address in the Town of Norwich for a trespass in progress complaint. Upon arrival, members of the Sheriff’s Office located the female victim inside the residence. After the investigation it is alleged that King unlawfully entered the victim’s residence where he waited for her to get home.”
Investigators allege King pointed a firearm at the victim, claiming he needed to talk, and later held a knife to her throat before forcing himself on the victim. Police said the victim received phone calls from family members during the incident and was able to communicate that someone was in the house. Family members then contacted 911, prompting King to flee the scene on foot.
King was located in the City of Utica and taken into custody without incident by the Utica Police Department. He was turned over to Chenango County Sheriff, arraigned in court and remanded without bail to the Chenango County Correctional Facility.
The Chenango County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Norwich Police Department and Utica Police Department. All charges are allegations, and King is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
