JOHNSON CITY - On Saturday, the Norwich Purple Tornado wrestling team traveled to Johnson City High School for the STAC championship. Norwich took 13th out of 17 teams with Horseheads winning the championship.

Norwich's Maverick Beckwith won the 124 weight class with three wins by tech fall as Jack Barnes was the only other wrestler to place as he took sixth in the 190 weight class.

Great efforts made by Jadyn Carpenter, Ryan Evans, Cyrus Graham, Evan Heath, Kolby Vielandi, and Bryce Wellington.

Joey Parker, Noah Eddy, Tony Roberts, Collin Howe, Malakai Hagenbuch, and Teagyn Demuth all finished third in the JV STAC Championship.

Norwich will host senior night against Chenango Forks on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Jack Barnes: sixth at 1-3, only win in a 5-3 decision vs Owego's Lucas Boccasini.

Maverick Beckwith: 1st with three wins by tech fall.

Jadyn Carpenter: 2-2 with a win by medical forfeit and a 5:17 pin against Ithaca's Will Fritz.

Ryan Evans 0-2

Cyrus Graham 0-2

Evan Heath 0-2

Kolby Vielandi 1-2 with a 9-8 decision against Horseheads' Kole Zufall.

Bryce Wellington 0-2.

Norwich girls wrestlers at the STAC Championship

JOHNSON CITY - The Norwich Purple Tornado brought five girls to the STAC Girls Wrestling championship on Friday night at Johnson City High School. Briley Beckwith was the number one seed in the 100 pound weight class and sure enough, she came out a champion as she took down the number two seed and won by tech fall against the number four seed.

Mallorie Schuster won two of four matches with two pins, including a quick :22 pin. Great efforts made by Emma Hughes, Bella Shepard, and Brianna Slater.
