GREENE – The Greene Trojans girls basketball team hosted Sidney in a tough MAC league contest on Friday night. Both teams had been thriving in their recent games and came into this matchup with big win streaks. Sidney took control early on and finished strong, even with Greene fighting back, and won 47-30.

It was an intense game with both crowds cheering proudly, including Sidney’s boys basketball team making the trip. Both teams were off to a slow start with defenses prowling first hand before the Sabers took a brief 22-18 lead at the half.

With Sidney controlling the game early on, Greene took its first lead late in the third quarter to go up 24-23 with an inside shot from Abby Yahner. However, Sidney got back to work and took a 28-24 lead at the end of the quarter before pushing through in the final eight minutes.

Greene ran into some foul troubles and could not set up a successful three to help them multiple times in this game. The Trojans also could not stop the Sabers from rebounding the ball offensively, which gave Sidney more opportunities to make shots or drive and get fouled.
