OXFORD — The Oxford Memorial Library, located at 8 Fort Hill Park in Oxford, will be hosting a Valentine's Day themed Family Craft Night at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12.
Participants can spend the evening crafting their own beaded heart suncatcher made out of pipe cleaners and beads, and led by Oxford Memorial Library Director Gillian Mulder.
"Our craft will be beaded heart suncatchers, which are made with various beads and pipe cleaners, so they can be customized and then hung wherever people want them, whether that’s in the window or just somewhere around," said Mulder. "I thought that would be fun for kids of all ages and the parents, too. The family craft nights are really for anyone who’s interested, it doesn’t have to be parents and kids."
The craft night is free for all ages, and all supplies will be provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Mulder said she will teach techniques to create the suncatchers, which attendees can follow or unleash their creativity and customize their craft.
"I’ll definitely go through the steps, but then I just let everybody decide if they want to customize it. But I will give them the general overview of how to accomplish it," said Mulder. "The kids always like to put their own spin on things, so you never really know what they’re going to come up with, which is fun."
Mulder said there will also be a station set up with supplies to make Valentine's Day cards, which will be free and available to use.
The Oxford Memorial Library hosts the Family Craft Night every month, as well as a monthly Adult Craft Night.
In the past, Family Craft Nights have included crafts such as pinecone bird feeders, finger-knit friends, and snowflake ornaments. Recent Adult Craft Nights featured teacup bird feeders, yarn Christmas trees, book page wreaths, and puzzle piece pumpkins.
