NORWICH - Last week, Commerce Chenango moved their headquarters from 15 South Broad Street to 19 East Main Street in Norwich.
The building, purchased by the Chenango County Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA), is a testament to the growth and sustainability of Commerce Chenango. While Commerce Chenango offices are on the top floor, funding for a childcare center on the bottom floor is being pursued.
Brian Burton, Chairman of the Chenango County IDA, states, “The CCIDA is excited to be able to provide new permanent home to Commerce Chenango and DCC. We feel the space offers opportunities to also fill other community needs in the near future. We look forward to the possibilities that will come from having such a versatile space in a great location.”
The move was made possible by the team at Preferred Mutual Insurance Company, who previously occupied and owned the building. Their team, especially Brian Burchill, former Site Services Manager, have been helpful, knowledgeable and courteous.
“Commerce new location is a significant milestone in our continued commitment, investment and dedication to the communities and members that we serve” said Luke J. Hess-Murphy, Commerce Chenango Chair. “In addition, this is a great example of how the IDA, Commerce Chenango and Preferred Mutual collaborated to make this possible.”
Benedikt Sander, President and CEO of Preferred Mutual Insurance Company said , “This transition marks a new chapter for a longstanding and important space in the City of Norwich. We’re pleased to see it remains a valuable resource for the community."
Rob Murrer, Preferred Mutual Insurance Company Director of Marketing Strategy & Operations agreed, adding, “We’re proud to see this space as a hub for economic growth and collaboration. We look forward to the impact Commerce Chenango and Development Chenango Corporation will make from their new home."
Commerce Chenango is planning an open house in the spring, inviting board members, the public and Commerce Chenango members in to see the new location. Details will be shared soon, visit www.commercechenango.com or Commerce Chenango on Facebook for updates.
“Having a permanent home for Commerce Chenango and a potential solution for daycare in our county speaks to the sustainability of this location and the overall health of our county” said Sal Testani, Commerce Chenango President and CEO. “The facility and capacity to care for 45 children under the age of three will entice businesses to relocate and recruit here.”
Testani continues, “Commerce Chenango has been serving Chenango County since 1959 and hopes to serve from this location for another 75 years.”
