OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks girls basketball team hosted Walton/Downsville for their final home game of the regular season, where they honored all the seniors prior to tip-off, including gifts for their opponent. Congratulations to Oxford’s Abby Denz, Emily Holbert, Christine Seiler, and Taegan Manwarren.
It was a close game from start to finish with Walton/Downsville leading throughout and picking up the overall 39-31 win.
Walton/Downsville had an early 5-0 run, showing strength from behind the arc right off the bat, which also helped them secure the victory in the end with Oxford battling back.
Both teams played physical on defense but Oxford’s offense could not finish nor follow their shots as Walton/Downsville was there to rebound under the basket.
The Blackhawks finally got on the board with 2:08 remaining in the first quarter as Taegan Manwarren made two free throws.
Oxford quickly scored their first field goal of the night when Paige Rickard passed the ball inside to sister Aubrey Rickard. Walton/Downsville then picked up multiple offensive rebounds and made a stop on defense to create scoring opportunities. Aubrey added another basket while Paige made a free throw and Abby Denz added a bucket before halftime.
