NORWICH - The Norwich Police Department is happy to announce a joint venture with the Norwich City School District and the Vestal Police Department this summer.
Norwich Police Chief Reuben Roach said the Vestal Police Department has invited the NPD’s School Resource Officer, Nicholas Mooney, to bring up to 20 young adults between 9th and 12th grade, to attend the Youth Police Academy in Vestal, NY.
The Vestal Youth Police Academy is a two-week venture that runs from July 14 through July 25. From its inception in 2012, the Vestal Academy has graduated over 800 students from 11 different school districts.
During this two-week program, students will take part in physical training and lectures to include SWAT Team tactics, Bomb Disposal, EMS/Fire Support, K9 Demonstrations and crime scene scenarios.
The Norwich City School District will provide daily transportation for the students and SRO to attend this training.
