GILBERTSVILLE - The Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Central School District has announced the top five academic students in its Class of 2025.
GMU will formally recogniz Valedictorian Alyssa Sorochinsky, Salutatorian Emma Alexis Peck and fellow seniors Dannaka Rasmussen, Quinn Covington and Avriel Correll for their academic excellence during its 2025 Graduation Ceremony in June.
Valedictorian Alyssa Sorochinsky
We are thrilled to recognize Alyssa Sorochinsky as Valedictorian of GMU’s Class of 2025! Alyssa has demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, consistently earning top grades and displaying a strong passion for leadership. Outside of the classroom, she has been an outstanding leader in the Catskill Area Student Study Council, making a lasting impact on our school community.
Alyssa has received numerous awards, including the Hugh O'Brian Leadership Award and the Section IV Character Counts Award. She also has the honor of serving as our National Honor Society President and as a Rotary Youth Leadership Representative. Alyssa is an New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete who has excelled in soccer, basketball, softball, and track and field. We look forward to the continued success that undoubtedly awaits Alyssa, who is the daughter of Kimberly (Jesse) Boldt and Matt (Melissa) Sorochinsky.
Salutatorian Emma Alexis Peck
We are equally pleased to announce Emma Alexis Peck as Salutatorian of GMU’s Class of 2025! Emma has earned this distinction through dedication, hard work, and a genuine love for learning. A standout student, she also has made significant contributions to our school community, consistently volunteering her time to support various activities.
Emma’s involvement extends to 4-H, serving as a Girls State Representative, participating in GMU Mock Trial, and holding leadership roles as National Honor Society member and S.A.D.D. Treasurer. She is an NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete, excelling in soccer, basketball, and track and field, and has been recognized by the New York State School Music Association and All-County for Senior Band. We are confident that Emma, the daughter of Lori and Gary Peck, will continue to excel and inspire those around her as she moves forward.
Dannaka Rasmussen
Congratulations to Dannaka Rasmussen, who has earned the third-highest grade point average for GMU’s Class of 2025 after demonstrating unwavering dedication to academic excellence. The winner of the Leveled Up Learner Award, Dannaka is also a Scholar-Athlete for girls soccer and basketball. In addition to her academic and athletic achievements, she has been recognized as an All-County performer for GMU in both Band and Chorus. The daughter of Rebecca and Joseph Rasmussen, Dannaka has made a number of valuable contributions to our school community. We are excited to see everything Dannaka will accomplish as she prepares for the next phase of her life’s journey.
Quinn Covington
We are proud to recognize Quinn Covington as our fourth-ranked student in GMU’s Class of 2025. Quinn has consistently displayed academic excellence, earning the Outstanding Participation Award in U.S. History and Government and serving as a key member of our team for the Catskill Area School Study Council’s Quiz Bowl. Outside of the classroom, he has made significant contributions to both our school and local community, such as helping his family run the beloved town bakery, 5 Kids Bakehouse. Quinn is the son of Heather and Coleman Covington, and we look forward to seeing his continued growth and success.
Avriel Correll
Hooray for Avriel Correll, who rounds out the Top 5 seniors in GMU’s Class of 2025. Avriel has demonstrated outstanding dedication to academic achievement and personal growth, excelling in both musical and theatrical endeavors at GMU. Additionally, she has earned numerous honors, including the prestigious University of Rochester Bausch & Lomb Science Award and NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete awards for soccer, basketball, and track and field. Avriel is the daughter of Aja and Oscar Correll, and we are excited to see the positive impact she will continue to make in the future.
