GREENE – The Greene Trojans girls’ basketball team is headed back to the MAC championship for the third straight year. The Trojans defeated Delhi 40-29 in the MAC semifinals to face Sidney, who won vs Unatego, in the 2025 championship game. Greene had faced Unatego for two straight years in the championship, where the Trojans won in 2024 but lost in 2023.
Greene also looks to avenge their previous loss to Sidney from the regular season to win their second straight league championship. The championship game will take place on Saturday, February 22 at Oxford High School.
In Friday’s game against Delhi, Greene had a slow start to the contest until they were able to hit the long ball with Claire Flanagan and Abby Yahner and finish after stealing the ball with Cali Knapp driving to the basket. After finishing the first quarter strong with a six-point lead, forcing multiple turnovers defensively, Greene found their rhythm on both ends of the court to help them control this game at home.
The Bulldogs attempted a late comeback in the final eight minutes, where they made it a seven-point game with under two minutes to go. However, Greene’s Josie Dutcher and Abby Yahner answered back offensively and the Trojans defense pressed Delhi, who turned over the ball on a travel on their final possession of the game.
