OXFORD – The Greene Trojans girls’ basketball team faced the Sidney Sabers in the 2025 MAC league championship game, held at Oxford High School. Greene finished the 2024-25 strong, where they tied with Sidney for first in the league before the title game, and reached their third straight championship game after defeating Delhi in the MAC semi-finals. Greene fell 51-43 to Sidney, who won their first league title since 2002. Both teams now head into sectionals, Sidney in Class “B” and Greene in “C”.
Both teams showed their strengths right off the bat. Greene came away with defensive rebounds and went for the long shots by Claire Flanagan and Cali Knapp before Abby Yahner and Mia Yahner contributed with inside shots. Greene started off strong with a 14-3 run until Sidney caught up and played great defense to force the Trojans to turn the ball over. Greene had a brief 14-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Sidney took control in the second, going on their own big run and continuing to pressure Greene defensively. Greene was held to three points in those eight minutes and were down 29-17 at halftime.
