ALBANY – Over the weekend, local Chenango County wrestling teams and individuals traveled to MVP Arena in Albany for the 2025 NYSPHSAA State Championships. Sherburne-Earlville brought senior Landon Andrade and seventh grader Drew Telesky to represent Section III while Norwich had defending State champion, Maverick Beckwith returning to States. Unatego-UV-Franklin brought Wyatt Meade, Yanni Drapaniotis, Abdul-Jamil Zaggout, and Abdeen Zaggout. Oxford-Greene’s Aiden Marcin made his final states appearance.

Norwich’s Maverick Beckwith became a two-time State champion, where he bumped up to the 125 weight class this year after becoming a states champion at 108 last season. It was Beckwith’s third appearance at States as just a sophomore. He finished with a 43-1 record this season and did not allow a single point against him all weekend. He defeated the 2024 State runner-up Brock Frederick from South Jefferson in the finals 4-0 and becomes the fourth Purple Tornado to win at least two state golds with two years of eligibility remaining. He joins an elite class with tying Frankie Garcia ’15 alum with two titles and is chasing to join the three-time champion class with Tristan Rifanburg and Dante Geislinger. Congratulations, Maverick!
