NORWICH — The Guernsey Memorial Library, located at 3 Court Street in Norwich, will be hosting a book sale in their Meeting Room from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 21, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 22. There will also be a free day from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 23.
"We have every kind of book imaginable, from board books for babies right on up through adults. There's always a lot of fiction hardcovers and paperbacks and also a selection of nonfiction. We always sort by subject, so it is easy for people to find what they are looking for," said Guernsey Memorial Library Director Connie Dalrymple.
On Saturday and Sunday, Dalrymple said harlequin-type romance novels will be ten cents, children's books will be 25 cents, paperback books will be 50 cents, and hardcovers will be $1. Additionally, the library will be selling DVDs and audiobooks for $1 each.
Dalrymple said there are occasionally "special treasure" books that are priced individually.
There will also be a bag sale on Saturday afternoon, where individuals can take a box or bag full of books for just $1.
On Sunday, individuals can take as many books as they'd like completely free of charge.
"You can take as many as you like for free. No limits," said Dalrymple. "We even provide boxes and bags for folks to haul away the goodies."
Guernsey is also accepting book donations for the book sale. Dalrymple said most of the books included in the sale are from donations.
"When outdated books are deleted from our collection, we also put those in the sale. But most of our book sale books are donated by people cleaning out their home libraries," she explained.
Guernsey Memorial Library hosts four book sales per year, in March, June, September during Colorscape weekend, and November.
Proceeds from the book sales go into the library general fund, and are factored into the library's regular budget. Any books left over from the sale are given to Better World Books, which resells what they can online, donates some to charitable organizations, and recycles the rest.
