SHERBURNE - Spring is a time of new beginnings. At Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne, the education team welcomes two new faces: Erica Clark, Senior Environmental Educator, and Ariah Mitchell, Education and Communications Associate. Together they bring a dynamic mix of arts, science, and outdoor education experience to Rogers.

“There’s a lot of merit to the educational prospects of art-science integration,” Ariah stated. “I’m excited to create and lead new programs at Rogers where creative exploration is taught as a part of nature appreciation.”

Erica and Ariah join Rogers as an exciting new chapter for environmental education begins in New York State. With increased funding available for school program transportation costs, directives from the governor to get offline and get outside, and new investments in New York’s park system, the time is right to increase opportunities for environmental education at Rogers.

“I am passionate about nature, and getting people excited about exploring the outdoors through hands-on experiences. Working at Rogers gives me an opportunity to connect people of all ages with the natural world, and help them understand the importance of protecting it for the future,” said Erica.

Springtime at Rogers also signifies the homecoming of a familiar, feathery face.

“As we welcome Erica and Ariah to the Friends of Rogers team, we also welcome back the beloved unofficial mascot of Rogers Center, Buddy the Goose!” said David Carson, Executive Director. Buddy has returned from his mysterious winter sabbatical and is back to making noise and making friends with the Canada geese in Channels Marsh.
