AFTON - An Afton man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly stealing firearms and violating an order of protection, according to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, investigators recently responded to a report of stolen firearms. Investigators said a suspect had unlawfully entered a structure belonging to the victim, where several firearms were taken, and an existing order of protection was violated.
Michael P. McWeeney, 23, of Afton, was arrested March 24 and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C felony; third-degree burglary and third-degree grand larceny, both class D felonies; and second-degree criminal contempt, a class A misdemeanor.
The sheriff’s office reported it had recovered all the stolen firearms.
McWeeney was taken into custody without incident and arraigned in central arraignment court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on cash bail.
All charges are allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
