CHENANGO COUNTY - With rising costs for goods and services, state officials step in to request additional funding to support the continual need for road and culvert repairs. While Chenango County Department of Works (DPW) has accepted the lowest bid for in-place paving, additional funds would help maintain county roads through the year.
Recently, Assemblyman Joe Angelino and other officials also called for increased funding from New York State for road programs. He said local roads are an essential lifeblood of state infrastructure and they must be prioritized in the budget.
“If we increase funding to these programs, we will be able to improve the lives of many in our state,” said Angelino. “Not only will the roads become safer for residents and travelers, but we will see a positive economic impact as well, as jobs will be created to fix and maintain the roads.
“In addition,” he added, “fixing these problems now will cost much less than if we wait to fix them years down the line.”
