BAINBRIDGE - The Bainbridge Fire Department (BFD) has received a grant from the Rotary Club of Bainbridge.
Volunteer firefighter Tom Akshar accepted the $2,830 donation on behalf of the department. The grant funded the purchase of new, high-quality structural firefighter gloves for the department, made possible by a matching grant from the Central New York Rotary Foundation.
The Bainbridge Fire District covers approximately 34 square miles, providing critical fire protection and emergency rescue services to the local community. The BFD’s volunteers play a vital role in the safety and well-being of our community. Their commitment and selflessness ensure that emergency services remain available in rural areas where they are needed most, and their support is integral in maintaining a strong, resilient community.
The BFD needed worn firefighter gloves replaced to ensure the safety of their volunteers. Firefighting gloves must be flexible, durable, and heat-resistant, offering essential protection against burns and other injuries during fire-related operations. Defective or inadequate gloves put firefighters at risk, and the new gloves funded by the grant will help ensure that the department can continue to safely respond to emergencies, saving lives and protecting property.
