OXFORD — The Oxford Memorial Library has a busy month ahead with crafts and seasonal events planned, and they're kicking off the month with Family Craft Night at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9.

Attendees will learn how to make paper butterflies out of magazine pages and string them into a garland. The workshop will be taught by Oxford Memorial Library Clerk Delaney Root.

"It’s going to be using recycled magazines, so you have different colored papers, and you’re also using something that typically would go in the trash to make a very cute spring decoration," explained Oxford Memorial Library Director Gillian Mulder. "It’s going to consist of cutting out some paper butterflies and doing some folding so they have a nice texture. Then it can be used as a decoration for right now or all the time, whatever people like."

The craft is free, no pre-registration is required, and all supplies will be provided.

Family Craft Night is open to all ages. Individuals are welcome to come and enjoy the craft alone, or bring their kids along for a fun family activity.

Throughout the month, the library will also be hosting a variety of events, many of which tie into the central theme of recycling.

On Saturday, April 12 at 1 p.m., Oxford Historian Vicky House will be leading "A Walk Around the Park," a historical walking tour through Lafayette Park.

The Oxford Memorial Library will also be hosting a book sale this month from April 19 to 22, during their regular operating hours of 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday; and 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Wrapping up the month will be an Earth Day Art Show from 5 to 8 p.m. on April 30. Individuals of all ages are invited to submit one piece of original art to the show.

"The Earth Day Art Show is open for anybody to apply or enter a piece of artwork made out of recycled materials," said Mulder. "That art show will be on April 30 at the end of the month, so people have all month to create something."

Submissions may be dropped off at the Oxford Memorial Library during their business hours from April 3 until noon on April 30.
