SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville Timberwolves baseball team opened its 2025 season on a windy and rainy Monday afternoon against non-league opponent Oxford.
Oxford, who defeated Walton/Downsville to start the season on Saturday, was up 6-5, heading to the bottom of the seventh inning and were one out away from victory. However, S-E had the bases loaded with two outs, tied the game, and scored the game-winner to win 7-6.
S-E looked to blow the game open at the start as they had the bases loaded in the bottom of the first with three straight walks. However, they failed to score as Oxford’s Nic Dodzweit got out of a jam with two strikeouts to end the inning.
Oxford tested S-E on the bases with Blake Barrows drawing a walk and then taking second on an error and then advancing into scoring position at third off a wild pitch. Barrows, who had a big game on Saturday, scored the game’s first run on a groundout RBI from Brent Hamilton.
The score would remain 1-0 Oxford until the Blackhawks added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. After Dodzweit was in a rhythm on the mound, striking out batters, his offense loaded up the bases off a hit by pitch and two walks. Hamilton had himself another RBI on an infield single while Blake Barrows, who drew another walk, scored on a wild pitch. Oxford was up 3-0.
