CORTLAND – The Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats baseball team went 1-1 in Lumber Yard High School Classic held at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex in Cortland on Saturday. B-G defeated section III’s Sauquoit Valley in a tight 6-5 game and fell to MAC league opponent Unatego/Franklin 10-1 in the second game.
In game one against Sauquoit Valley, B-G scored in the top of the second on a bases-loaded walk after a scoreless first inning. Brayden Swartwout, who had three hits in the contest, led the inning off with a single and Aidan Haynes drew a walk before Jaxson McGraw’s two-out single loaded the bases. Parker Buttice drew a walk to bring in the first run of the game.
Sauquoit Valley answered back in the bottom of the third inning, plating four runs to take a 4-1 lead. They scored four runs on four hits.
Down 4-1, the Bobcats answered back with a run in the top of the fourth inning to cut the deficit to two as McGraw scored on a passed ball.
