Sheriff Investigates Fatal Crash That Claimed Life Of Hamilton Teen In Smyrna

SMYRNA - The Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded to an accident on Saturday, April 12, after the Chenango County 911 Center received a call of a one car motor vehicle crash on County Road 14 in the Town of Smyrna.

When patrol units arrived on scene, they found that the vehicle had rolled over and struck a utility pole.

Five of the occupants had self-extricated from the vehicle but one occupant was still entrapped.

The occupant in the vehicle, a 17-year-old male from Hamilton, NY was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Four of the occupants were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division, Detectives Division and Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to investigate.

The crash is still under investigation.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Smyrna Fire Department, Earlville Fire Department, Chenango County EMS, Madison County EMS, the Chenango County Highway Department and NYSEG.
