CORTLAND – The Harpursville/Afton Crimson Hornets baseball team played two games at the Lumber Yard High School Diamond series in Cortland on Thursday, where they dropped both games to Thomas Edison (Elmira Heights) and Glens Falls.
Game 1:
Harpursville/Afton fell to Elmira Heights 13-5. Both teams were scoreless after two until the Spartans struck first with four runs in the third inning. They added on with two additional runs before the Crimson Hornets cut the deficit to two runs.
The four runs in the bottom of the fourth came on two outs. Matt Carman walked and had Sam Mancuso come in as a courtesy runner and advanced to third on a single by Jacob Rueffer. Cooper Warren was hit by the pitch to load the bases for Timmy Barnett, who drove in a pair on a single to right.
Davin Warren kept the inning going with an infield single to load the bases again for Donnie Hoover, who drove in a pair on a single to right.
The Crimson Hornets got one back in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 6-5 game as Carman drove in Jayden Deleon, who had an infield single and stole second and third to get into scoring position.
