SHERBURNE — The Sherburne Music Theater Society (SMTS) has announced auditions for its first theatrical production of the season on Sunday and Monday, May 18 and 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Earlville Opera House, located at 18 East Main Street in Earlville.
The show, "August: Osage County," is a tragicomedy by Tracy Letts. It was the recipient of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play, among many other awards.
The show will be directed by Donna Moren and requires 6 men and 7 women. The characters vary in age from 26 to 69, with one young female character aged 14. Please note, this is a Black Comedy that contains raw, real conversations about trauma and family dysfunction. It contains language that may be offensive. The author does not allow any cutting or alteration of their script in any way, and we will not be changing any parts of the script.
Those interested in auditioning need to obtain an audition packet. The link to the packets can be found on the Sherburne Music-Theater Society Facebook or Instagram page or by contacting the director at moren.donna@gmail.com. The packet contains full description of the show, its characters and the auditions monologues.
Auditioners will be required to prepare two monologues from two different characters (found in the packet), be prepared to do some “cold readings” with other auditioners, and should fill out and bring the audition form from the packet with them to the audition. No previous acting experience is necessary, and we welcome all who are interested.
Actors, if you love digging into a character and bringing them to life, this is the play for you! Come join us and audition for this powerful piece of theater. Production dates are August 1, 2 and 3 at the Earlville Opera House. If you have questions or need more information, please contact the director at moren.donna@gmail.com.
