AFTON – After rain had put a damper on their previous expected meeting, Harpursville/Afton and Bainbridge-Guilford finally got a beautiful day for a league baseball game. The Crimson Hornets were coming off winning the Livingston Manor tournament on Sunday while B-G snapped a win-streak in a close loss to non-league opponent Schenevus. B-G got back on track and remain unbeaten in the MAC league standings with a close 5-3 victory.

After a scoreless first, B-G got on the board with all five runs, despite being outhit by the Crimson Hornets 4-3. Back-to-back walks to Brayden Swartwout and Aidan Haynes put runners in scoring position with one out. Harpursville/Afton’s Ryan Wright struck out Anthony Cafasso to get the second out.

However, the Bobcats rallied with two outs. Mason Acquisto loaded the bases with a hit by pitch before a bases loaded walk brought in one run. Connor Davy hit a triple to center, clearing the bases, and scored on an error before the Crimson Hornets got the final out of the inning.

The Crimson Hornets kept the Bobcats quiet throughout the remainder of the contest but could only answer back with three runs of their own. Harpursville/Afton’s Matt Carman, who was named tournament MVP at Livingston Manor, drew a lead-off walk, stole second, advanced to third on a balk before scoring on a wild pitch.
