EATON – Mrs. Frances B. Sherburne, 87 years, formerly of Sherburne Road, passed away at Crouse Community Center in Morrisville on Jan. 1, 2008.
Born Oct. 18, 1920 in the Town of Butternuts, she was a daughter of Leland J. and Beatrice Nearing Silvernail. Frances graduated as valedictorian of Mt. Upton Central School in 1937. On Nov. 18, 1939, she was united in marriage to Raymond G. Sherburne in Otego. He predeceased her on March 30, 2003. Mrs. Sherburne had been a secretary for the Morrisville-Eaton Central School until her retirement in 1977. An annual award is given in her name to a graduating MECS senior who demonstrates commitment to family, school and community.
Mrs. Sherburne was a member of the Eaton Community Bible Church, the Eaton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Ladies Auxiliary of FASNY, CNYFA, and Madison County, and the Willow Glen Rebekah Lodge #158.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Art Zimmer of Syracuse; a son Robert R. Sherburne of Delray Beach, Fla.; five sisters, Ruth Bell (J. Clifford) of Deland, Fla.; Nita Bryant (William) of Pleasant Valley; Donna Silvernail of Endicott; Joeann Buerkert (Charles) of Tomball, Texas and Sharon Ellison (Robert) of East Syracuse; four brothers, Fred Silvernail (Dorothy) of Conway, S.C.; Neal Silvernail (Elaine) of Rhinebeck; Everett G. Silvernail (Karen) of Largo, Fla. and Larry Silvernail (Julie) of Leroy; sister-in-law, Janet Silvernail of Oneonta; her grandchildren, Jenny and Jack Lewis of Sanford, Colo. and John and Carrie Sherburne of Wilmington, N.C.; her great grandchildren, Amy Grace Lewis and David Ray Lewis of Sanford, Colo., and several nieces and nephews. Frances was pre-deceased by three brothers, Clifford, Howard, and Wesley Silvernail, and a sister, Marion MacPherson.
A celebration of Mrs. Sherburne’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday from the Eaton Community Bible Church. There will be no calling hours.
Interment will be in the Maplewood Cemetery, Mt. Upton.
