OXFORD – Janet A. Stringham, 75, of Sweetwater, Tenn., formerly of Oxford, passed away on Jan. 21, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Weedsport.
She was born on July 2, 1932 in Liberty, the daughter of the late Alvie and Julita (Schmitz) Houghtaling. On Sept. 4, 1949 she married Albert Stringham, who survives.
Besides her husband, Albert, she is survived by her children, Judy and Bryan Pierce of Oxford, Kallie and Gale Clinton of Greene, Denise and Robert Whitney of Gloucester, Va., Bonnie and Gregory Marvin of Weedsport, Steven and Kelly Stringham of Sweetwater, Tenn., Penny Stringham of Crystal River, Fla. and Donna Parrish of Crystal River, Fla.; her brother and wife, Nelson and Kathy Houghtaling of Timmonsville, S.C.; her sister-in-law, Mary Houghtaling of Oxford; sixteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, William Houghtaling.
She had worked at the Grand Union in Greene, NBT Bank, Hi-way Rec Vee, and Halfway Back RV. She was a farmer who enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. Her children and grandchildren were very important to her. She also enjoyed bowling, dancing and travel.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, NY with the Very Rev. Ralph Osborne, rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Oxford officiating.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Finger Lakes, 1130 Corporate Drive, Auburn, NY 13021.
