EDMESTON – Susan Kathrine Nahlik-Hill, 86, died peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008 at Oneida Healthcare Center, Extended Care.
She was born Nov. 24, 1921 in Clayville, the daughter of Paul and Susan (Pavlus) Nahlik. She married Samuel Hill on Feb. 21, 1943 at the Westminster House, Boston, Mass. by the Presbyterian University Pastor, Derniiaro Leo Rice. Samuel predeceased her on March 22, 1976.
Susan retired from Simmonds Precision in Norwich where she had been employed as an inspector of aircraft components. Susan was a survivor. She was inflicted with polio at an early age and went on with a determination to overcome the effects of the disease. She was driven and that characteristic is carried on in her children. She enjoyed cooking and baking, camping and trips to Turning Stone Casino. Her greatest joy was the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and the family pets. Recently, she had come to enjoy bowling on the Wii at the nursing home and became a member of the Red Hat Club.
Her children Sylvia Diane Hill-Stevens (Charles), Patricia Susan Hill-Pirrone (Rocco), and Brenda Kay Hill; her grandchildren Sherri Lynn Stevens-Wolff and Matthew Patrick Stevens; her great grandchildren Zachery Charles Bosworth, Alycia Kaylynn Bosworth, Barbara Gean Stevens and Susan Marie Stevens; her sister Betty Hume and many nieces and nephews survive her.
In addition to her husband, Samuel, her brother Steven Nahlik and sister Anna Nahlik predeceased Susan.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home in Edmeston with Pastor Ray Merritt officiating. Calling hours for Susan will be two hours prior to the service, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Burlington Flats Cemetery.
Contributions may be made in Susan’s memory to the Polio Foundation or the Oneida Extended Care Facility. Susan’s family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff, volunteers and residents of Oneida Healthcare Center, Extended Care for the love and support shown to Susan.
