Marian Cook
NORWICH – Marian P. Cook, 80, of Bartlett Road, Norwich, passed away late Monday evening, Feb. 11, 2008 at her home.
The only child of Glen and Helen (Emerson) Pearsall, Marian was born in Sidney in Dec. of 1927. Growing up in Mt. Upton, she attended Mt. Upton High School from which she graduated in 1945. She furthered her education by attending beauty school in Albany, then worked as a beautician for 20 years. In 1967, Marian went to work for the S&H Green Stamp Store, beginning as an assistant and working up to the manager’s position which she held until the store closed in 1979. Not a person to remain idle in her retirement, Marian devoted her time to her home, her church, and traveling extensively with her husband. She was a long-time member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Norwich, where she sang in the choir, worked on the Altar Guild, and was involved with their women’s group. An active volunteer for over 20 years for Chenango Memorial Hospital, Marian also enjoyed oil painting and belonged to the Norwich Fine Arts Guild.
On Oct. 4, 1947, Marian married Richard L. “Lefty” Cook, who predeceased her on Jan. 18, 2007, after 59 years of marriage. She is survived by her children and their spouses; Rev. Stephen Cook and wife Terasa Cooley of Arlington, Mass; Thomas and JoAnn Cook of Crestview, Fla,; Sharon and James Everard of Norwich, and Susan and David Adkison of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; and by grandchildren: Joshua Cook of Maine, Jennifer Butler and husband Steve of Okinawa, Japan; Andrew Adkison of Bradenton, Fla., Michael Schlafer and fiancee Jenn Sykes of New Albany, Pa., Melissa Osterhout and husband Bruce of Norwich, Alexander Adkison and wife Amber of Tallahassee, Fla.; Rebecca Dill and husband Christopher of Gainesville, Ga.; Melinda Horton and Mathew Schlafer of Norwich, Aaron Mullinex of Albuquerque, N.M.; and Ashley Wilkes of Norwich. Also surviving are 13 great grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Marjorie Cook of Norwich.
Funeral services for Marion will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Emmanuel Episcopal Church. The Rev. Glenn Mahaffey, Rector, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday.
