SOUTH NEW BERLIN – Nettie L. Kuhn, 80, a life long resident of the South New Berlin area, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, Feb. 15, 2008 at her home in South New Berlin.
Born in March of 1927 in the Town of Norwich, Nettie was the daughter of Guy and Florence Thompson Lamphere, She grew up in the South New Berlin and Holmesville area where she attended the local schools. On March 29, 1945 in Oneonta, she married Charles LeVern Kuhn, who passed away Oct. 15, 1989. Nettie worked for a brief time for the Norwich Knitting Mill and then went to work for GLA and its successors retiring in 1989 from Unison after 37 years.
A very family oriented lady, Nettie loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She always enjoyed telling stories, talking about their sports games and looked forward to their visits and phone calls. Sitting on her front porch she would watch her family mow the lawns and ride the 4-wheeler and on occasion would even go for a ride on the 4-wheeler with her hair blowing the breeze. A lover of animals, she would always have a soft spot for stray cats and over the years had taken many of them into her home.
Nettie was a long time member of the Holmesville Baptist Church and a member of the South New Berlin Fire Dept. Auxiliary.
Nettie is survived by her daughter Jean Maxson and husband David of Holmesville; her grandson and his wife Donald and Wendy Kuhn of South New Berlin; her great grandchildren, Todd, Brittany, Brandon and Brooke Kuhn. Also surviving are her brothers and their wives, Aubrey and Joan Lamphere of New Berlin and Thomas and Linda Lamphere of Norwich along with several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Charley, Nettie was predeceased by her sister Augusta “Gussie” Sliter and her brothers James and Henry Lamphere.
Funeral services for Nettie will be held at noon on Tuesday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Romeyn Kipp, pastor of the Holmesville Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery of South New Berlin.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at noon.
