NORWICH – Roberta “Bobbie” Lee Carson, age 68, passed away at her home surrounded by her family and close friends on March 25, 2008.
Born Oct. 11, 1939 in Smithtown, Long Island to Janet Land (Clark), Bobbie moved to Norwich with her mother in 1944 and graduated from Norwich High School in 1957.
She married William M “Bill” Carson on Aug. 8, 1959. Bill predeceased Bobbie on July 27, 2003.
Bobbie graduated from the Ridley - Lowell school of business in 1959. She worked for the John C. Stott Agency, the Waterville school office, and for Henry Bennett of the Norwich Pharmacal company. After briefly attending Oneonta State School of Nursing, Bobbie stayed home to raise their three children, Bill, Tim & Sue. She spent many years supporting Bill Sr. in his coaching career, and worked in the Norwich school system and board of education office from 1972 - 1984.
In 1984, Bobbie and the rest of her family purchased Canasawacta Country Club from Ernie Taranto and Vera Church. Bobbie worked tirelessly and with unbelievable pride and perfection until she retired in 2005. Throughout Bobbie’s tenure at the club, with the help of their children, she and Bill hosted hundreds of different events for companies, community events and fundraisers, private receptions, clambakes, and outings. It was Bobbie’s relentless pursuit of perfection that raised the quality of service and offerings that the Country Club could provide. Her many years of “hostessing” in her home provided just enough experience to carryover to her very successful career at the Country Club. Bobbie will be well remembered by the many members and friends of the club. So many guests have counted on Bobbie to bring style and importance to their events at the Country Club over the past twenty years.
Bobbie is survived by her children and grandchildren. Bill Jr., of South Beach Fla., Tim and his wife Mary, and their four children, David, Brian, Danny, and Michael, and Sue Ryan and her husband Matt and their son John William.
A Memorial Service for Bobbie will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1 at the United Church of Christ First Congregational, West Main St., Norwich, with a reception at the Canasawacta Country Club immediately following. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Chenango County Hospice & Palliative Care, 21 Hayes Street, Norwich, NY 13815.
The arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the funeral home website at: http://wilsonfh.com.
