OXFORD – James Edward Lamphere Sr., 70, of Oxford and formerly of Norwich, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2006 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital of Norwich after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jim was born Jan. 26, 1936 in South New Berlin, the son of Guy A. and Florence Thompson Lamphere. He grew up in the South New Berlin and Holmesville area and attended the South New Berlin school. Over the years Jim had worked for several area farms, the Norwich Shoe Co. and several other area employers.
Jim is survived by his children: James Lamphere Jr. and wife Linda of Norwich, Barbara Lamphere of Binghamton, Adelbert Lamphere and wife Cris, Edward Lamphere and wife Dianna and Rodney Lamphere and wife Elizabeth all of Norwich; his former wife MaryAnn (Shaw) Lamphere, his sister Nettie Kuhn of South New Berlin; his brothers: Aubrey Lamphere and wife Joan of New Berlin and Thomas Lamphere and wife Linda of Norwich. Also surviving are several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jim was predeceased by a sister, Augusta Sliter, and a brother, Henry Lamphere.
Funeral services for Jim will be held at noon Friday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home of Norwich. The Rev. Romeyn Kipp, pastor of the Holmesville Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery of South New Berlin.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at noon.
